Mission Statement
We seek to fortify the faithful in the knowledge, understanding and participation of the Gospel and Orthodox teachings, improve the visibility of the Church, actively reach out to non-Orthodox, encourage involvement in missionary activities and greater mission-mindedness and support other ministries in their work towards these goals.
Some of Our Past Activities
Activities that have been sponsored by this committee in the past are a parish Open House, Outreach Vespers events, the Basics of Orthodoxy series, and the Support-A-Mission-Priest (SAMP) program administered by the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). This committee also tries to advertise seasonal services and was responsible for much of the content on this website. Finally, Logos Bookstore and the Welcome Committee are two ministries in our parish that the Missions & Evangelism Committee partners with and supports.
This committee is meets regularly to work on various projects including outreach to college campuses, providing opportunities for religious education and making our parish more visible in the Portland/Beaverton area.
This is a ministry where we can actively try to help other people find Christ, in thanksgiving for the Truth we have been given. Please contact the church office if you would like to participate.
“Mission to America”, 2021
St. John the Baptist began as a humble mission parish more than 20 years ago and has grown into a mission-minded parish, filled with people who wish to see the Light of Christ’s resurrection be shared with those God has prepared to hear the Gospel. St Paul says “How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a [person to share the gospel with them]? God has blessed us during this pandemic in ways we are only beginning to see. Let’s open our hearts and prayer times and our wallets so that others may share in the blessings of knowing Christ. Please donate any time until Pentecost, 2021!
